FAQ
Where is your office located?
I offer virtual sessions so you can meet with me anywhere in California. My goal is to remove barriers to therapy – no stressful commutes, no fighting traffic, and no need to rearrange your entire day to get support.
You can join sessions in the most comfortable and private space for you, whether that’s your living room, a quiet spot in a park, your car, or even your home office. Many clients appreciate showing up in comfy clothing, with their favorite blanket, or even a cup of tea nearby.
Virtual sessions make therapy feel less like another task on your to-do list and a natural part of your routine, providing a space to exhale, settle in, and focus on yourself.
What are your hours?
I offer evenings and weekends because I know life is busy and healing doesn’t always happen on a 9–5 schedule.
How long are sessions?
Sessions are 50 minutes, allowing time to slow down, reflect, and focus entirely on yourself.
Do you take insurance?
While I’m an out-of-network provider, I offer a Superbill for you to file with your insurance carrier if you have mental health benefits.
How do I set up an initial appointment?
The easiest way is to give me a call. We can then schedule a time to talk and see if we’re a good fit.
What is your cancellation policy?
Life happens. If you need to cancel, I ask for 24 hours’ notice to avoid the $99 cancellation fee.
How much does therapy cost?
I understand finances are an essential part of the decision to begin therapy. Please reach out, and I’ll walk you through my current rates and options.
Do you offer a sliding fee scale?
I don’t currently offer a sliding fee scale. I understand that cost is an integral part of deciding to start therapy, and I want you to feel comfortable making the right choice for your needs. Because I work with private-pay clients, I can offer personalized care, flexibility, and the attention you deserve without limits.
Do you offer a free consultation?
Yes! I offer a brief phone consultation to get to know each other. This is your chance to ask questions and see if working together is the right fit.
What payment methods do you accept?
I accept credit cards, debit cards, and HSA/FSA cards for your convenience. Many clients prefer the ease of keeping a card on file so sessions are billed automatically, providing one less thing for you to consider.
If you’re paying privately, I’ll provide a monthly superbill for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement. I aim to keep payments as transparent and straightforward as possible so you can focus on our healing work together.
What technology do I need for virtual sessions?
You don’t need anything fancy! A phone, tablet, or computer with a camera and microphone is enough. I use a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform that’s easy to access. Most clients click a link I send.
If you’re not very tech-savvy, don’t worry. I’ll walk you through it step by step so you feel comfortable. If you plan to do EMDR sessions, I recommend using a computer or laptop for the best experience. This allows us to use the tools and screen setup that make EMDR most effective. My goal is for sessions to feel stress-free and straightforward so that you can focus on yourself, not the technology.
How confidential are sessions?
Your privacy is essential to me. Everything you share in therapy is held in the strictest confidence, within the limits of the law. I use a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform for virtual sessions, and any communication by email or text is also handled through HIPAA-compliant systems to protect your information.
I understand that opening up can feel vulnerable, and I want you to feel safe knowing that your personal information and our conversations are protected. My role is to create a private, respectful, and supportive space where you can share openly without fear of judgment or concern about confidentiality.
What is your professional training and experience?
I am trained in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), with years of experience helping individuals navigate trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, and illness.
Do you work with individuals, regardless of gender identity?
Absolutely. I welcome teens and adults of all genders, including men, women, and those who identify outside of the gender binary. I also work with clients who identify as LGBTQ+, and my goal is always to provide an affirming, respectful, and supportive environment.
No matter how you identify, you are seen, valued, and welcomed here.
What do you actually do in sessions with clients?
Good question! Each session combines talking, reflecting, and practicing tools that help you shift how you think, feel, and respond to life. Sometimes, sessions feel like deep conversations; others feel more like problem-solving or skill-building.
My role is to guide and support you, but I also listen deeply so that therapy feels like a safe and supportive space – not a lecture.
Do your clients receive assignments to work on between sessions?
Yes, though I don’t call it “homework.” Instead, I consider it skill development or part of your wellness plan. They provide simple practices you can try in real life, so therapy isn’t just something that happens once a week, but part of your daily growth.
What modalities do you use in your work with clients?
Depending on your needs, I use Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). These approaches help us get to the root of struggles while giving you tools you can use immediately.
How can I maximize my experience working with you?
The clients who experience the most transformation are those who consistently show up, are honest about their struggles, and practice the skills we discuss in session. Therapy works best when you bring your whole self into the process.
What if I’ve never done therapy before?
That’s okay! Many of my clients are starting therapy for the first time. I’ll guide you through the process so it feels safe and not overwhelming.
What if I’ve tried therapy before and it didn’t work?
That happens, and it doesn’t mean therapy isn’t for you. Sometimes, it’s about finding the right therapist and approach. Together, we’ll explore what didn’t work before and create a different experience for you.
What if I don’t know what to talk about?
That’s more common than you’d think! Sometimes, clients arrive without knowing where to start. Part of my job is to help you find the words, the focus, and the space to uncover what matters most.
How long will I need to be in therapy?
Everyone’s journey looks different. Some clients come in for a few months to work on a specific challenge, while others find ongoing therapy supports them through life’s ups and downs. We’ll check in regularly to make sure therapy is meeting your goals.
Can I choose how often I come to therapy?
Most clients start with weekly sessions to build momentum. Depending on needs and progress, we may space sessions out over time.
What if I feel nervous about opening up?
That’s completely normal. Many people feel nervous at first. We’ll move at a pace that feels safe for you. You never have to share more than you’re ready for.
Can I bring my faith or spiritual beliefs into therapy?
Absolutely. Therapy is your space, and it’s essential that you feel comfortable bringing your whole self into the room.
For some clients, faith or spirituality is a central part of life, and weaving that into therapy can feel grounding and meaningful. For others, religion or spirituality may not be part of their identity, and that’s equally valid. I honor both paths.
My goal is to meet you where you are – whether that includes faith, spirituality, questioning, or none of the above – so our work reflects what matters most to you.
Will there be a dog in the session?
Yes! My black Standard Poodle occasionally likes to make an appearance. He has a calming presence and is always happy to nap nearby while you share. You can bring your pet, too. Bonus points if your furry friend wants to say hi on camera.
Do you make people lie down on a couch?
Nope! Unless, of course, you’re already lying down on your couch during a virtual session. (That happens a lot, and it’s perfectly okay.)
Can I bring coffee or a snack to the session?
Absolutely. Therapy is your time, and I want you to be comfortable. If having a latte or a tea helps you settle in, bring it.
Will you tell me what to do with my life?
No. My role isn’t to hand you answers. It’s to help you discover them within yourself. I’ll offer guidance, strategies, and tools when needed.
Do you laugh in session?
Yes. Healing can be heavy, but laughter often shows up. Sometimes, laughter is healing in itself.
Will you judge my messy apartment or office?
Not at all – I’m more interested in your thoughts and feelings than your housekeeping skills.
